Join LACBC for a fun community ride on Westwood Blvd. and through surrounding neighborhoods on Saturday, February 9th.

Meet at UCLA Ackerman Bus Terminal at 10am. Light breakfast provided, lunch provided too!

(Alternate meetup at 11am at Riddick Youth Center in Cheviot Hills)

Led by the UCLA Bike Coalition and LA County Bicycle Coalition, the ride will showcase existing bike facilities and exciting future projects, including the Westwood Blvd. bike lane and the Expo Bikeway.

CD 11 Livable Streets Candidate’s Debate – Jan. 22nd

Working with the Bikerowave, the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition and Los Angeles Walks, Streetsblog is hosting a candidate forum for the four candidates running to replace the retiring Bill Rosendahl in the Westside’s Council District 11.

The forum will be held on Jan. 22 at Nolte Hall at 11555 National Boulevard at 7:00 p.m. There will be light refreshments afterwards. So far, Mike Bonin, Odysseus Bostick and Frederick Sutton have agreed to participate in the discussion that will be moderated by Will Wright, the Director of Government and Public Affairs for the American Institute of Architects, Los Angeles Chapter. We have reached out to all four candidates. The event is free and open to the public.

This forum also marks the launch of L.A. Streetsblog’s “livestream” channel. The forum will include exclusive interviews with Wright and both the candidates for livestream that will later be hosted on a new L.A. Streetsblog YouTube page. Details on our new video channels and series will be coming in the next couple of weeks.

The Bikerowave will be closed this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday for Thanksgiving and turkey/Tofurky eating and resulting food comas.

November Class!

Due to the influx of Thanksgiving and various other factors Bikerowave is proud to offer one class for the month of November! It’s an oldie but a goodie; bike fitting. Don’t be put off by its boring name, bike fitting is perhaps the most essential part of bike tuning next to having your brakes work. Have you ever found yourself wondering why your knees hurt like an airplane destroying gremlin has been gnawing on them. Have your hands ever felt like you have been handling a hammer-drill? Sounds like you need to attend our bike fitting class. Taught by JB our in house expert on all things comfort. Come in and find out how to spread the pain around equally to all extremities by making micro adjustments to handlebars, brake levers, saddles, and seat-posts.

Come on down November 18th at 4pm. for a basics of bike fitting class. All classes are free but please RSVP at bikerowaveclasses@gmail.com put your name and the class in the subject line if you are a nice person. Thanks!

“Basics of Cycling” class on Sun Oct. 28th, 4 PM

Tired of being stuck in traffic, polluting the environment, and shelling out all that cash for gas? Explore cycling as a means of alternative transportation in this class that will cover riding techniques and basic mechanics for confident city cycling whether you are touring, commuting in traffic, or taking a weekend to the beach. We’ll have 90 minutes of class instruction and then an hour of on-the-road training in safe cycling skills. Bring your bike for this segment of the class if you’re ready to learn about your rights as a cyclist, lane and intersection positioning, and how to be safe and super cool on the open road. The class is free of charge, though donations of baked goods are never rejected.

Where: the Bikerowave, 12255 Venice Boulevard

When: Sunday October 28th, @ 4 PM

Lindsey is an avid cycle tourist and soon-to-be-certified League of American Bicyclists instructor. J.B. is a resident of L.A.’s Westside who’s been volunteering at the Bikerowave since 2008 and is head mechanic at Bikerowave on Saturdays from 11-2.

Bikerowave Rides to CicLAvia! 8:30am, Sunday 10/7

What better way to ride to CicLAvia than with a ton of other people riding to CicLAvia?

Bikerowave will lead an easy-going 12-mile group ride to the MacArthur Park Hub of CicLAvia. Come one, come all–no riders left behind!

Meetup at Bikerowave will start at 8am. Rollout will be at 8:45am.
